Privacy Policy

TrackrNG is founded on citizen empowerment and protection. We promote user anonymity and protect your personal privacy by design.

Last Updated: October 2026
Anonymity by Design

We never ask for your real legal name, residential home address, phone number, NIN, or BVN. You engage using a pseudonym/username of your choice.

Strict Email Privacy

Your email address is confidential. It is used strictly for authentication and account security. It is never made public, sold, or shared with third parties.

EXIF Metadata Stripped

GPS coordinates, device model, and hardware serials are automatically purged from all uploaded photos before saving to protect your physical safety.

Issue Location Only

We track the physical location of the reported community problem (Ward, LGA, landmark), never your personal background GPS movement.

1

Introduction & Our Philosophy

At TrackrNG ("we", "our", or "the platform"), we believe that every Nigerian citizen has the constitutional and democratic right to demand accountability, sound infrastructure, and functional public utilities without fear of intimidation, harassment, or retaliation.

Traditional platforms often demand invasive personal disclosures that discourage open civic participation. TrackrNG is deliberately designed with data minimization and pseudonymous engagement at its core: we collect only what is strictly necessary to prevent automated spam and keep public issue reports trustworthy.

2

Information We Collect vs Information We Never Collect

A. Information We Never Ask For:
  • No Real Legal Names: You are not required to provide your government name.
  • No Residential Addresses: We do not ask where you live or sleep.
  • No Government Identification: We never request National Identity Numbers (NIN), Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), voter's cards, or passport copies.
  • No Phone Numbers: We do not require your phone number for registration.
  • No Background Geolocation Tracking: We never track your personal device movement.
B. Information We Do Collect:
  • Account Credentials: A chosen public username, an email address (for login, password resets, and verification), and an encrypted password hash.
  • Public Civic Reports: Details you voluntarily submit regarding community issues, including title, category, description, Ward, LGA, State, street landmark, and uploaded photos or videos.
  • Community Activity: Your public comments, endorsements ("Affects Me Too", "Support"), resolution proposals, and hashtags.
  • Technical Logs: IP address, browser type, and timestamps collected automatically to protect against DDoS attacks, automated bots, and malicious manipulation.
3

How We Handle Your Email Address

Your email address is treated with the highest degree of confidentiality:

What We Use It For:
  • Account authentication and secure login
  • One-time email address verification to deter bot farms
  • Sending password recovery links if you forget credentials
  • Service notifications on issues you created or follow (customizable)
What We Never Do:
  • Never displayed publicly on reports or comments
  • Never visible to government agencies or officials
  • Never sold, rented, or monetized with advertisers
  • Never shared with commercial data brokers or marketing firms
4

Public Data vs. Private Data

It is important to understand what is public on TrackrNG and what is strictly private:

Publicly Visible to All Citizens & Visitors Private (Restricted to Secure System Backend)
• Your chosen username & avatar
• Reports you create (title, photos, description, location)
• Public comments & discussion replies
• "Affects Me Too" and "Support" votes
• Proposed corrections & before/after resolution photos
• Your email address
• Your password (bcrypt hashed & salted)
• Technical IP addresses and server access logs
• Private notification records
Important Note: Because your issue descriptions and photos are public, avoid uploading personal selfies, family members' faces, private car plate numbers, or documents containing personal contact details in your report photos.
5

Photo Evidence & Automatic Metadata (EXIF) Stripping

Modern smartphones automatically embed hidden EXIF metadata into every captured photo. This hidden metadata can include your phone's exact GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude accurate down to meters), phone manufacturer and model, camera sensor serial numbers, and exact timestamps.

Automatic Server-Side Sanitization

To guarantee your physical privacy and protect whistleblowers and active citizens from being traced, TrackrNG's servers automatically strip 100% of EXIF, GPS, and device metadata from every uploaded photo before storing it in our media repository.

Anyone downloading or viewing your civic evidence photo from the public platform receives only the sanitized visual pixels. Nobody can inspect the image file to discover your device hardware or trace where you snapped the picture.

6

Data Security & Encryption

We implement modern industry-standard security practices to protect your account. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is secured using Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS) encryption. Passwords are saved with strong one-way cryptographic hashing (bcrypt) and are never retrievable in plain text by anyone, including platform administrators.

7

Data Retention & Account Deletion

You maintain control over your TrackrNG account:

  • Account Deletion: You may request full deletion of your account at any time. Upon deletion, your email address, profile credentials, and private records are permanently purged from active databases.
  • Public Civic Archive: To protect public continuity and transparency, community issue reports previously submitted (e.g. documentation of a collapsed bridge or flooded road) remain in the public civic record, but are disassociated and attributed to an anonymous contributor.
